45 minute exposure @ 18mm. Not focused that well, but again it was my first try ever.
Please reply with suggestions on how to better focus or improve these. The EXIF data should be intact.

I know how you feel, I tried my first one not to long ago, I think you are on the right track. Superb image. keep up the good work.No pun intended on (track)

I don't see anything wrong with the focus at all, it looks great. With the 450D you should be able to pick out a particularly bright star, zoom as close in on it as possible, then bring it up on Live View and magnify that to 10x. Easy to then adjust the focus to as close as you need.
It's a great shot, though personally I would try and get something a little lighter in the frame, in the foreground. The tree's nice, but shining a gentle light on the tree would bring it out a little more...I like that sort of thing.
