my wife was gonna go and do this at the store, but itll cost over $1 for 1 print, i figure i mite as well use this as the opportunity to buy me a printer

That seems like a lot. I use Exposure Manager and a 4x8 print is $0.59 or 10 copies with envelopes for $6.95. They offer them in higher quantites also. Check to see if you can do the same through Zenfolio. Then all you need to do is design a 4x8 print with the photo of the family and choose a nice font for the words. PM me with an email address and I'll send you a file of holiday fonts that I have, It was available for free through a link oin an Adobe site.
