I was noting that I can not get the AF assist beam to emit on the 420EX when I am in the creative modes (P,TV,AV).
I thought that it was because I had the C.Fn-04 set to 1 (AE lock/AF), but when I set it back to 0 it did not make a difference.

I looked through the other threads breifly (the owners manual for both pieces of equipment)and did not see an answer to this. Is the 20D set up this way intentionally?

It is difficult to see the pre flash under normal circumstances, but I do not see it in the creative mode P as I think I see it in the Full Auto modes. (actually I am sure I can not see it in the full auto modes, I just convinced myself that i can:lol: )

Any direction (links are  ) would be great, Thank you,

Have you checked to see if you inadvertently put your camera in AIServo mode? If you did, put it back to Single Shot or AI Focus mode and you'll get your AF assist light back.

Also check your CF-5 setting (AF-Assist beam, p. 142).

I had CF-n 5 set correctly... It was the AL-servo mode. Once I put it to one shot, it worked perfectly. Thank you very much.:D :D
