I am thinking about signing up for Flickr Pro, but was told Picasa is very nice. What do you guys recommend?

I don't see any real advantage of going pro with flickr, I like it the way it is. Unless I had something going wrong with the backup system I am using

You can upload as much as your want with no restrictions, the files can be over 10 megs (good if you're me)...lots of benefits

I use Flickr, but you do need to have a 'pro' account as the restrictions otherwise will not take 90% of 5D processed JPEGs at the highest level and the number of shots restriction per month will not support most people.

It's a cheap backup at $25 anyway. I back up to a portable hard drive once a month, but when my internal drive crapped out on September 22nd, it was convenient to just pull down all the shots from September 1 to September 22 from Flickr. Otherwise I would have been stuck paying someone to try and recover data from the dead hard drive which costs a lot of money.

Always backup BTW.

For me they are 2 totally different things. Picasa for quick edits, but Flickr is a whole community...Guess it all depends on what you want each to do, or expect each to do.

Another Flickr fan here. I use Picasa software for simple edits and stuff but their web hosting is not good enough for my needs. Flickr is a great place for sharing photos and the Pro service is cheap as chips!

Hey Total, what's with the Stanley Cup?? Is that you, or one of your shots?

I've never used Picasa, but I can say I've been very happy with Flickr. It's been the gateway to my Zenfolio since my images on Flickr are returned in google searches, but the Zenfolio is not.

Picasa to backup my photos online, Flickr for sharing photos in a community atmosphere.

Ahh, but I have no need for that, I simply downgrade my pictures resolution, obviously the RAW file isn't affected

Agree with your point on the backup, but I tend to put them on dual layer DVD discs
