I have to say, I'm floored with how well this thing is built. I just received it about 10 minutes ago, so have yet to shoot with it, but what drives me nuts about my current Kenko CPL is that it easily starts to loosen off of the lens when you turn the polarizing element. The B+W, I turned the element around 30 rotations and the mount didn't budge.

There are a bunch of reasons why they're a bit more expensive than other CPLs...build quality is one of them. The brass rings really give it some heft.

Helpful hint: When looking through the viewfinder, remember to rotate the CPL in the counter-clockwise direction...this will prevent you from inadvertently loosening it and having it fall to the ground.

I just got the Kaesemann too today. Same impression here with the build quality. I can see it getting a lot of use on my 17-40L.

Rodenstock CPL is a similar quality if you want an alternative to B+H. While Kaesemann is a trademark of B+H, Rodenstock uses a similar coating technology (and brass rings) but it just doesn't use the Kaesemann name.

B+H is a store. B+W is a filter ;)

One big thing is the KSM is semi water tight and a hell-of-a-lot easier to clean . I look for and buy any I find reasonable .
By the way , I have at least 2 for each lens [ 3 of one size - fits 2 lenses ] .
By the way , if you use a hood , sometimes just rotating camera is easier than the CPL . If you are cropping -- .
I'll check out prices on Rodenstock CPL , but to be honest , they would have to be less than 50% of B+W -to even consider .
I'm very happy with B+W .

They're the same quality; same price. I only meant to say if you can't find the B+W one you want (out of stock, etc) you can get the Rodenstock for the same quality. While it doesn't say Kaesemann because that is a trademarked name, it uses a similar process and very high quality German glass.

TheHoff - thanks , I watch the market place here FM and ebay and bid on almost anything B+W .
I don't know what the next lens I buy will be , but the last was a 35-350 that took a 72 mm filter - had a B+W UV , but no KSM CPL . The other UV and cpl are a Green brand ?
-They were GIVEN to me - better than nothing .
Looking for , But have the 77 to 72 ring so no rush .

I love my B+W Kaeseman MRC CPL! I really wish I would have bought one before heading out on a dedicated landscape trip to Moab last winter...it would have made a world of difference!

Thanks for the info...I received an email stating it was shipped on 12/5, but tracking it on the USPS site, it says it left Hong Kong on the 10th! I love good deals, but hate the wait for the slow shipping!

anyone know what the difference is between the b+W cpl fpro mrc and the kaesman mrc cpl?

kaesman is sort of like the L version of the CPL.

kaesman = KSM , the KSM is more water tight and dust proof . The parts , pieces fix together better . If you don't shoot in widy areas , the beach or dusty areas - you don't need the KSM . But you don't need your spare tire unless you have a flat .
If you can afford it - get the KSM's .
Mine seems to rotate a little smoother [ the KSM ] I have both the pro f , the ones before they put pro on them and the KSM's .
I like the KSM better .
A word tho - you lose up to 2 stops when in max mode . This depends on how bright the sun is and how much gunk is in the air .

To situations where the Kaesemann is a preferred option (and this is actually the primary one) add "areas of high humidity". The sealed Kaesemann keeps moist air from working between the plates sandwiching the polarizing film.

Cant get much better thaN THE B+W Polarisers. Well worth the extra money in my opinion.

BTW I cant understand sometimes when people spend $2,000+ on good piece of "L" glass only to ruin it by adding a cheap 30.00 filter to go in front of everything.

Mine must have carried the same curse that new astronomy equipment always carries - bad weather. My B+W Kaesemann arrived a week ago and it has been clouded over every day since then. :(

I just got my filter today.

Ordered: 12/13
Shipped: 12/15
Received: 12/29

It's a long wait, but well worth it for the savings.

Just wait til you get to shoot with it. I see a huge difference in my images versus my old Kenko/Hoya

I wish I had it yesterday. I saw the problem for the first time with my cheap filters. The lens flaring from flashes basically killed all my shots.
