I'm sure there's a ton of improvements I can make here. I just don't know what. I used the Manuel mode on my 50D, flash with -2 1/3, f stop 5.6, shutter speed 1/10 and iso 1600.

I tried to play with other options, but I couldn't get it to look better than this. No editing done.

The subjects are my daughter and fam/friends at San Jose's famous Christmas in the Park.

Thank you in advance.

Nothing really to say. They're nice shots, albeit, a little lens flair but ok. Good technically.

What technically speaking is "lens flair"?

What do you mean by "bump"? Up the exposure level +1?

He was just posting to the thread to "bump" it up to the top again so it wouldn't drop off the front page without a critique.

A light source that is visible to the lens that is strong enough to cause reflections in the lens that creates bright odd shapes. I don't see it here but I'm on my laptop and may be missing it.

Google it for a much better explanation.

yeah, i don't see any flare here, either.

rgomes, shoot into the sun and you'll see these large round spots in the frame . . . that's flare.

Ouch! Won't that hurt my eyes and lens? Are you trying to blind me? LOL;)

Turn on image editing. #1 needs to be brighter. #2 maybe a contrast bump.

Increase your shutter speed as well. Looks to be a little be of camera shake and/or subject movement.
