Aside from using a laptop or PC, are there any devices out there that will connect to a TV that will allow me to view digital pictures from a flash card or USB thumb drive? I'm trying to use the Digital Picture Frame concept, but with a larger screen greater than 20". TIA

Are you looking for something you can take from place to place, or for your home environment? Many DVD players accept USB devices (including card readers) as video/audio sources. Still more will play back JPEGs off a CD or DVD. If you want it for travel, look around for one of the portable DVD players that support USB and SD memory. Another option is to get a portable data device like the Epson Px000 or Hyperdrive units, which have video out ports. You can play back from cards or direct from the hard drive. That may be your best bet if you want to take your pictures with you on the road because it gives you a backup as well. SanDisk used to make a $40 or so digital picture viewer, but this seems to have been discontinued. Too specialized, I guess, since the functionality is creeping into all sorts of other devices.

You beat me to it Jon, my card reader displays on my TV, but I recall that pictures taken in Portrait config are sideways on.

That's regrettably a result of not everything recognizing the JPEG 2.21 standard "Image Orientation Flag". Used to be that if you set your camera to preserve orientation, it'd actually save the whole image as 2048x3072 (for instance). Now it saves it as 3072x2048 and sets a bit that indicates which corner needs to go where. You'd need to go into an image editing program to physically reorient the picture to show vertically.

Thanks for the help so far. What I'm trying to do is to make a 20" - 32" digital picture frame using a monitor or LCD TV that I can hang in my Living room that won't require a PC to run the slide show. The portable DVD seems like it might work. I was searching last night and found this WD device that seems like it would work.

Since you don't seem to know what size it will be, I can only assume that you haven't yet bought the TV. I just bought a 32" samsung and one of the very, very many features it includes is a USB port on teh side of the TV and a mode that allows it to be used as a large digital picture frame like you intend. If you haven't bought the TV yet then I'd suggest simply including that feature in the list of what you're looking for.

Thanks. Didn't know TVs have USB ports. That might work out well.

I have a USB port on my Samsung 40" HD tv. I put my shots on a USB memory stick - just size the shots to 1920 x 1080 to fill the screen. IQ is stunning.
