DRebel kit lense

how good is the kit lense for the Digital Rebel?

does anyone have any experience with it? any pros and cons?

is the kit lense the same on the XT??

how many of you have it and never use it?

The 18-55 is ok for what it costs, but it is soft. I'm upgrading mine to a (much more expensive) 17-40 f/4L because of said softness, and because I've got the L bug:D From what I've read, I think the kit lens on DRebel and XT are the same.

It's OK for general shots considering what is paid for it. Keep in mind that most lenses are sharpest stopped down 2-3X from max aperature, so you may be disappointed with shots taken at f-4.

It goes for about $60-65 used easily, not too bad.

They go for around $70 on ebay. And there's alot of demand. Apparently people are buying these things and taking a hacksaw to them to jam them on a 10D. Don't ask me why...cheap wide solution I guess.
