Hi, I have a 20D and the lenses listed below. I brought my 20D into the store I bought it for cleaning of the sensor. Next thing I know, they tell me they discovered a problem with the shutter (one of the blades off the track) and that it needed to be sent to Canon for warranty repair (some 3 weeks). Now, a couple of weeks later, they tell me that Canon refused warranty claiming tampering and they wanted $350 for repair. I called my person at the store who knows I know diddly about the workings of these things and she told me they would take care of it but that would be another few weeks before I see my camera. Naturally, since I am traveling at the end of this month and am not sure I will have my 20D back by then, I am thinking about getting a second camera body. I do change lenses a fair bit so having a second body is something I have thought about anyway. The questions is, what should I get? A 1DS mark II would be first on my list if I could just move the decimal point on the price over one spot....;) Barring that, anyone have an opinion on 20D versus Rebel XT for my purposes?

Thanks!

Best,

Jon

Sounds like your friendly neighborhood camera shop broke the shutter while they were cleaning the sensor. Since that's the case, maybe you should hit them up for a loaner. They should at least pick up the cost of the repair. And get your backup body somewhere else!

If you're not concerned about the price difference between the 20D and the DRXT, I'd say staying with the 20D would be the best plan. The DRXT uses different batteries, and you'll be able to set up two 20Ds exactly the same, so switching cameras will be seamless and effortless. The more differences there are between two pieces of "interchangable" equipment the more ways you'll find to mis-set one of them!
