I have a big bag but I don't always want to take all my stuff along. I'm wanting to buy a bag that will just fit my camera body (xt but might someday get the xti)and attached lens-my biggest lens is the canon 17-55-and maybe a battery or two. I looked at Etsy but then read that the bags there aren't very padded. Anyone have any ideas? I want a cute bag but I'm not opposed to a manly looking bag either. :p

I use a Lowepro Nova 2 AW when I want to travel light :

I'm not manly, but I do have the Domke F-5X, which is just right for my 5D with 24-70 and that's about it with accessories. It's perfect as it doesn't look like a normal camera bag and is very portable. The only complaint is that I need to have a separate purse for everything, so it's two bags to carry around. But you travel light, which does happen to me sometimes, I can carry stuff in my pockets and the bag does fit batteries, etc. I don't like pretty bags too much, just functional ones.

Try your local dept. store. I have a small no-brand bag from Meijer for under $20, it's fairly well padded and it has enough space for an XTi, 2 lenses, spare battery and charger.

I would go to your near store like Ritz etc
I got a Quantaray (pro or watever) little backpack to complement my rather big Lowepro 200
The quantaray was better built than the tamrac similar and was a bit less expensive
Im very happy with it and is pretty small to carry my XSI with grip, 5680II flasn and Tamron 28-75 without being too bulky
I still use the lowepro but is a bit bulky for my normal use
No regrets

Want something cute? Get a Crumpler 4MDH or any of their purse type bags or a Vera Bradley bag which is nicely padded and all can be had for a reasonable price.

I like my Billingham Digital Hadley as a small bag

Thanks everyone-I'll check out the bags mentioned. I"m leaning toward the crumpler-I'll have to drive at least an hour to find a shop that carries anything (no stores in my area).

Oh, order it on line. It's so much cheaper than gas.

I'm quite happy with my Lowepro Rezo 120 AW, which I bought to be small. I'm thinking of getting the Lowepro Inverse 100/200 AW in addition to it.

Offtopic: You're thinking about upgrading from 350D to 400D? What's the point? Rather go a whole step, like 40D or similar.

It's not cute, but I have a Lowepro TLZ1 and it barely fits my gripped XTi and Sigma 18-200mm OS with the hood reversed. Your 17-55 should have no problem. Batteries will also fit and the charger as well if you like.

I ended up ordering the 4MDH and hopefully I'll like it. As for the upgrade-I was thinking about it recently when I sent my camera in to be fixed. I thought about upgrading it instead of getting it fixed. But at the time I sent in 2 lenses also and they sort of made me think there was something wrong with them. When I called to ask they said they would 'fix' the lenses at no charge if I got the body fixed so I went ahead, thinking the lenses needed repairs. It turns out there was nothing wrong with the lenses and had I known, I would have gotten a new body. Oh well. I probably won't upgrade until my xt dies but I am not good enough for something like a 40D, plus my xt is heavy for me.

Lowepro- Good for 50D and the 18-200 zoom. In a pinch, the other lens, or the Zigview can go into the smaller section. The lens will kind of rest on top of the lens attached to the camera, but padded from the divider. Comes with two dividers. This was about $60.00 from BH last month. The nice thing about this bag is though it's advertised as a waist-pouch version, it comes with a shoulder-strap.

this is my general purpose bag, domke f6 (http://www.adorama.com/DMF6SD.html?searchinfo=domle%20f6&item_no=3)
i carry all the gear in my sig and i usually carry a whole bunch of thing (cards, cables, reader, spare batteries, a P&S business cards and such. it weights a bit ;) so i recommend the post carriers shoulder pad. its a great lil workhorse bag. if u want i can PM u some shots of my bag packed.

I just got the Domke F-X5B (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009PATZ2/192-5704582-5468862) for Christmas and it fits my 50D (ungripped) with a Canon 24-105 and hood.

my general purpose bag is a lowepro slingshot

it'll fit a 70-200 2.8 and a 50 D at the same time and at least a couple of primes, that's generally all I need. the longest lens I have currently is 70-200

I would suggest you the Tamrac Velocity.
I got Velocity 8, which is suitable for my 40D with lens and 2/3 lenses or a flash and other smaller accessories.
If you do not need so much equipment, Velocity 7 is just a little bit smaller.
And it is very fast to get the camera from the bag, due to its sling design. Its only drawback is that it is not very comfortable if you have to walk around for very long time, as one single sling strap is not as nice to wear as a regular backpack.
