Hi, I have EOS 400D. Any one know, when will canon release next entry level DSLR? Do they have any particular time interval to release new cameras?:)

you can check out the rumors section...it's basically a bunch of users commenting on when something is going to come...being shocked when it doesn't come...predicting another date...shocked when that one is wrong, also...and then finally getting it right and saying 'i told you so'

the bigger question is what do you find lacking in your 400D that makes you want to upgrade...and does the xsi(450D) cover any of those needs

300D, 350D, and 400D all had product lives of about 18 months before being replaced. The XSi (450D) came out in what, March of this year?

I'd guess sometime at the end of next year, but really, it's anybody's guess.

Actually I thought to start this thread under 'EOS DSLR section'. After finishing only I found that I started this thread under 'EF lens' section which is below the DSLR section. I am new to this forum.

My 400D is fine except the flash's 'error 05'. I heard that it is because of switch beneath the hot shoe that believe external flash is on it. I have to take my 400D to service center to fix this error.

if you're a little handy you might be able to fix it yourself:
http://www.conraderb.com/flashrepair/

go to the part about 1/2 way down that says "how to replace flash switch"

not sure if that's your problem, but the link explains how to see if it is or not

Hi DreDaze,
Thank you very much for your help. I also saw same type of instruction to fix error 5 problem. But this one is with photos. Let me try this soon.

Ever think about going to an xxD?

I went from a 400D to a 40D and never looked back. There are so many features that are just simply better than the 400D.

A 40D can be had for about $600ish now used or with the live return on ebay. A 50D has many nicer feature too and was enough for a lot of people to upgrade from the 40D.

To me the IQ was not a large enough leap to justify the purchase. I just waited for the 5D MKII to come out and seeing how it covers most everything I could want I am just sitting on my cash until its more in stock.

Also Best buy has a 10% coupon you can use on the 40D, 50D, 5D or 5DII if you want. Thats almost $400 off on the 5DII kit.

If you go to a 50D I dont think you will find yourself wanting an upgrade for a long long long time.

EOS 400D is a good camera. Some of the photographers suggest to use entry level DSLR for hobbyists. They say other DSLRs are for professionals.

WOW...I dont even understand the reasoning behind that advice they gave you.
I am 100% hobbyist and make zero cash off of it and look at my gear. who cares what someone else tells you what is pro. buy what you want

They advice professional and semi-professional DSLRs have higher ISO and fps. They feel it is not much essential for hobbyist unless they often to take sports action pictures and higher ISO-related shots.

next time tell them to stop trying to feel like they are superior acting like they are the only ones who are allowed to own anything but a rebel. Sounds like they are trying to hold you back so you dont move into their territory and jealousy. Why wouldnt you want higher ISO ability...faster fps. do you only shoot legos in a brightly lit room where iso100 and slow shooting is plenty. Some people are just full of themself

Nice advice. I will consider it when I have enough money to buy 50D. Does higher ISO produce more grainy picture? Even at 800, images are bit grainy. What about at several thousands of ISO?

yes higher teh ISO the more grain..but the better you properly expose the pic will also help reduce the amount of noise. I have never really look at many high ISO shots on the 50D so I am not sure how it looks

Hillarious and true...have you heard about that 10mm-800mm f/1.2 thats the size of a 85 1.8 and is only going to cost $300 because of advanced black silicon technology that is coming out soon...I cant confirm the date, or tell you who I heard this from though
