I spotted the flowers that are blooming on a bush in our yard today and thought I'd try some pictures of them. I don't know the name of the bush, but it's pretty common around here. The flowers don't last very long and since I was off work today I figured why not.

Taken with my Canon 10D, 70-200 2.8L with 12mm Kenko tube on it. ISO 100, 1/100th f16. Light tent and 3 Excalibur monolights lighting it, one on each side and a small one with a snoot next to the camera.

Thanks for the comments. The bush these grow on are near the sidewalk and usually the kids that go by like to hit the groups of flowers because they fly all over the place. Usually I don't pay much attention to them but since I've been playing with my light tent, the little grouping of flowers caught my eye. :D

Yes, Marie, you can see little drops of water on them... before I took this picture I tried to dunk it into soda water to take pictures of it with bubbles all over. But the bubbles create little floatation areas and cause it to not stay down in the water. You don't realize just how bouant carbon dioxide is until you try to sink something into it. :D

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Alan and Samer. I've seen the flowers on that bush every spring for years but only thought to take a picture of them this time. Good thing I got them when I did, they are starting to whilt on the bush now and don't look near as good.

Yes, although it is still offically winter here in the Northwest, we didn't have one this year. Very little rain and very little snow in the moutains. We were in the 50's most of Jan. In the 60's in Feb and have hit 70's for a few days here in March. All of the flowers, fruit trees and other things that bloom and start growing from mid March to the end of March are all out and almost through their blooms. Tulips will be up in another week or so. If we get a late frost this year it is going to wipe out a lot of our fruit and nut crops. If we dont' have a very wet spring we are going to have a lot of forest and grass fires this summer. The last time this happened in 1996 we had 2 weeks of 100+ deg days during the summer and 90's most of the rest of it. This is not normal for the Northwest, nor is it normal that Calf. got all of our rain this winter. But in the meantime, it makes for great photography weather.

thanks for that Mike

I take it that you took the photograph inside the house so
I imagine the slightest breeze would catch these delicate blooms when outdoors
making it difficult to get all in focus

it works really well here
sometimes flowers shot inside look unnatural (or something)
the background is perfect
