View Full Version : What is the latest firmware for the 1Ds MII?

the one I recently purchased came with 1.03. Is that the latest?

When I read luminouslandscape's review, he said he had trouble with the 4gb Hitachi Microdrive and was waiting for Canon to sort it out.

I'm wondering if he had an earlier version, or if a 4gb CF card would be different. I currently have an 80x Lexar 1gb and a Sandisk Extreme III 1gb, both very fast cards. But when shooting raw, I can only get between 50 and 60 shots. If I'm shooting raw and jpeg, it's way less.

I want a 4gb CF card, but not if it's going to cause problems.

Yes, 1.0.3 is the latest version.

Thank you. What size card do you use?

I don't have a 1Ds2 (mine is the 1D2) so the card size I use may probably be irrelevant to you but I use a couple of 1GB CF cards. I doubt I'd ever use an MD drive but that's just my personal preference.

Pac, I agree, I would not be interested in the MD drives either. I like the CF card better. I'm wondering, though, if there is a problem with a 4gb CF card as there was with the 4gb MD

Just curious, have you ever tried SD cards instead of or CF for the extra speed or both for the mirroring capability?

I have not yet tried the SD card, reason being I want it to match the Extreme III card and it isn't out yet, or B&H didn't have it last Sunday when I was there.

I use both SD and CF cards, but not for the backup function. I just like having the extra storage in camera so I don't have to swap cards as much. One thing frustrates me is that they don't switch automatically when one is filled. If there is a way to do that let me know, I haven't seen it.

As for speed, I really haven't paid attention to that. I do notice the 1Dsmk2 files take longer to write than the 1Dmk2, but expected that, so I never really monitor it.

1DMk2 handles 4GB cards no problem,.

I use a mix of 2GB CF, 4GB MD the occasional 1GB CF and some 1GB SD cards...

There are 2GB SD cards just arriving on the market,. I'll get one as soon as they are readily available.

Unfortuntely, they won't switch cards when one is full automatically,..

I had assumed that this would be "fixed" in a bios update,. but it's now a year since the 1D2 came out,. so I gues sit's not going to happen. :(

Have you read the review of the 1Ds MII on luminouslandscape? He had consistent trouble with the Hitachi Microdrive 4gb, jumbled or lost photos. He's still waiting for a response from Canon. Do you think the fact it is a microdrive makes the difference?

I was shooting a hockey game tonight and I just can't believe how fast raw shots fill a 1gb card. I have two of them, but it's still only about 50 on each, and that's without a jpeg capture simultaneously.

I found myself doing some major chimping and lost three goals as a result.:(
