Look, plain and simple, I know my strengths and weaknesses. So here's one of my weak links, one of many.

I'm about to get some cool presents, along the lines of another flash and a wireless transmitter for same.

I was at a high school wrestling match the other day, and a photographer there had two flashes clamped somehow to the sides of the bleachers, aiming toward the wrestling mat.

I WANNA DO THAT, darn it.

Please give me links, pictures, drawings, whatever it takes to educate the village idiot as to either stands, hot shoe attachments, etc., that will work like I described.

Thank you in advance.

Here is a strobist page with some great info. Its specifically about basketball, but light is light. Be sure to check out the links in the first paragraph, there are some diagrams in there.

The Bogen superclamp with stud is all you need.
No need for the hotshoe swivel mount.
You can use the flash stand that came with your SB800 (or any Canon Speedlite), underneath it, there's a threaded hole that can go to the superclamp's stud.

*Points at the village idiot* Shesh with your money, you might as well just buy yourself a professional photographer and an assistant. I heard Nick's willing to do the job.

I don't understand how with more than 12,000 posts you haven't figured out that the main place to go for all your answers is: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

The only problem is that you have to read some of the info there.

I like the swivel for being able to adjust the angle of the flash easier. Plus, they have many other uses with umbrellas and modifiers.

In addition to what fortinaa mentioned, you'll also need an RF wireless transceiver or Tx/Rx set. Knowing Mark, I'll just recommend him the top of the line PW unit ( ;) ):

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/221277-REG/PocketWizard_802_450_MultiMax_32_Channel_Transceiv er.html

Although, the following "lesser" unit will do, too, even though it's not as flexible as the MultiMax unit:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?ci=0&shs=pocket+wizard+plus+ii&sb=ps&pn=1&sq=desc&InitialSearch=yes&O=jsp%2Fproduct.jsp&A=search&Q=*&bhs=t&Go.x=14&Go.y=11&Go=submit

With either of the above, you'll need a unit for the camera and one for each remote flash being used.

Cables, if necessary, to connect the PW unit to the flash with other than the miniphone plug to PC cord that come supplied with the PW units can be had from FlashZebra.com. :)

Thank you, Leo. I have three PW's but have only used them when I had studio lighting. Do they plug into hotshoe flashes also? I would imagine the plug has to be much smaller than what I used on my hensel monolights, as if I remember correctly those were like standard-size microphone cord plugs

I found it a little conflicting that you have PWs, know studio lighting but don't know how to set it up, but anyway if you want to do what they did at the wrestling match, you'd need either:

- Some sort of clamps with hotshoes to attach your flash. If you don't want to spend much, and a handyman, go get some clamps at Home Depot, drill a 1/4 hole in the handle, and stick a hotshoe on it, works for me like a charm.

- A tall, yet very stable lightstand and a safe place to position it. Also go to Home Depot, and grab a piece of steel and mod it to hold your flashes and your PWs. Here's how I did it for my wedding shoot:

I don't have the shots of the modded clamps, but you get the idea.

If you have a flash that has a built-in PC port, then you can just use the cable that comes with the PW unit. If the flash does not have a PC port, you can use a hotshoe to PC adapter, like the one below, between the flash and the PW unit.

http://flashzebra.com/hotshoes-shoes/0065.shtml

You can also get a hotshoe to miniphone plug cable, like the one below, if you don't want to mess with two separate components (hotshoe adapter + sort PC cable) between the flash and the PW unit.

Looks to be a Plus II.

Here is a splitter from Flashzebra.

I got some at Radio Shack (I think). Just try and get mono and not stereo ones.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post pictures of that setup. That is very nice.

Just a quick note OT on what you view as a conflict. I never said I "know" studio lighting. I merely said I owned studio lights. Unfortunately, as only an enthusiastic hobbyist, I never had ample time to learn their proper use. I probably used them less than five times in the year or so I owned them and eventually sold them because of that nonuse.

Again, thanks for the picture. I realize this is not rocket science, but I am not familiar with these accessories and didn't know what to search for.

Ya or you can mod it yourself if you have a 580ex, really simple, I never held a soldering iron in my life and could manage to do it on my first time.

Viet,

It's the PW Plus II.

Derek was right about the split, and you can also buy that at Radio Shack for a few bucks, make sure it's Mono, stereo won't work

You are welcome and I apologize, I quickly glanced at your post and saw you said something about studio light so I assumed you knew enough about it.

Mark are you planning to scare away the animals at the zoo with your studio lights powered by a battery pack? :D
