I babysit children for my day job... and every year I do a photoshoot just before Christmas to give as gifts for the parents.
This year I decided to choose my favorite photo of each child from the year and enlarge up to an 11x14 print...
I really like this image, but not sure if the processing is too dark around the edges... I was going for sort of a vintage look....??
Do you think it works or should I lighten up the BG some?
CC welcoome and appreciated.. THANKS for looking!! :)

Kristy,
Gorgeous! Very lovely. I don't think the dark edges is bad at all. If she was surrounded by plants/flowers, then the dark edges wouldn't be appropriate, but I think it works here.

I'm far from a pro, but IMO this is beautiful as is. Maybe you could also post one with the left side slightly lighter so we could see the difference.
What a nice gesture...this photo would bring me to tears if I was her parent and received this from you :)

Definately prefer the undarkened image. Just wish there wasn't the cinder block wall.

Kristy...I duplicated background. Then desaturated that layer then took the eraser and
erased to the original backgournd (still in color) but at 35% flow. After that I went and adjusted the color to a speia tone for the desaurated level, put the desaturated level at about 65% opacity and then Flattened.
I have another one witha little contrast added backinto the vintage looking onr with grunge border..

Border might be too think on this one...

I am no pro either, but I would like to share my thoughts on this. Personally, I like this version of the image. The wall doesn't bother me so much as the large border you added to the images below. (It cuts her head off. :() If the wall is an issue, maybe you could clone out the lines in the wall and have a solid looking background?
Either way, LOVE the capture and I know I would love this if it was my daughter. We have a picture that was given to us from our sons daycare 15 years ago and it still hangs on the wall in our house. You've captured a GREAT moment. :D

Thank you for this... I forgot that I cut her head off... I did that on purpose.... for two reasons... First, it bothered me that her hair was all messy under the headband... it was driving me crazy... And secondly, I had to crop it to fit it to 8x10 matted to 11x14, so it was either the head or her foot... and the foot is so darn cute.. I had to keep ithtere.
The wall doesn't bother me at all.. that was another poster's comment... it's part of the scene.. and backyards have walls... so, it is what it is...lol.
I'm sure her parents will love it... I went with the more B&W version although I love the color... but I did a B&W of her baby sister, so I decided to keep it consistent (at least colorwise).
Thank you again for your viewpoint.. I do appreciate it greatly when a person takes the time to type a comment. It is very, very nice of you. :)
