I took this one touring back to the truck after two nights of backcountry skiing. I had never gone backcountry skiing before and man was it a blast! The weather was phenominal as was the scenery. Just breathtaking! Of the many pictures I took, a number good, this one sticks out among the top. Requesting commentary above all on composition, where I feel I'm lacking the most and what I feel is the most important. Your comments last time were excellent, I learned lots!
Photoshopping: Noisewared, lightened the middle just a bit, colour ballance, b/c, hue/sat, levels, USM, and corrected horizon line.
All comments welcome. Thankyou and enjoy!
Tim

You know, I NEVER liked those weird "angled" pics, but since the trees are upright and I can see the water line (EXCELLENT job with photographing the water), I can tell that the sand isn't level to the water (it being a hill, and the camera was straight).
I absolutely love, LOVE this picture (even though I'm not overly crazy about the composition, I think lengthwise would look worse).

Great shot. captures the transcendental joy of nordic skiing on untracked territory. I love the colored sun flare pointing straight down at the vanishing point of the tracks.
How did you determine exposure? My pics like this always come out too bright.

aam1234 - Thankyou!
Spirit - I'm somewhat confused. I see snow and sky, not water and sand. Might you be confused? ;) Confusion aside thankyou for your comments. Are you saying that you would have preferred a <-> (landscape) orientation as opposed to the present "rotate <-> 90 degrees" (portrait) version?
David - I let the camera do the metering and made sure nothing was blown-out in the histogram. That was all. Thanks to you as well.

Very striking photograph.
If not water, then what is it beyond the trees on the far right?

Mountains and mist and Missoula I think as well.

Great shot, and I love the flare. Looks extremely bright, as I know it was, and makes you feel like you have to squint to keep the bright light away.
Frame it. Hang it.

Is that not water on the far right? SNOW!! I would have sworn that was a (wet) sand hill (dune). lol! Yes, I meant that I prefer horizontal or vertical pics, as opposed to those weird "hold your camera on an angle" pics, but I REALLY like how the snow is on a slant (hill) and the background is nice and straight.
I agree... frame, and hang. :)

Very Cool. I like the contrast, the ski tracks and the sunlight. Even the time of day is nice. Well done!
