Will the DIGIC4 processor be available to the entry level (xxxD) D-SLR any time soon?
Was thinking of buying the XSi (450D), but I'd rather wait for the DIGIC4 if it will be available soon.
As anyone heard anything??

Well, the XSi is only a year old in January, so my guess would be that there won't be another update until later summer or fall.

doesn't canon do all bodies on the same processors once they develop a new one? So the next xxxD, xxD and xD will ALL have digic4? Basically to get a XXXD with digic4 you just need to wait until they make/announce the next xxxD right?
who me?

That is true but at the rate Canon is changing things, the next new camera may have a Digic 5 chip...
i know I will be corrected on this but I didn't think the Digic3 was out that long before the 4 replaced it.
Of course, it depends on how badly you want/need a new camera will make more of a decision point for purchase than waiting for a new Digic chip. IMO

I can wait, my 300D (Digital Rebel) is still doing a fine job. But since the Digic4 is now available on the 5DII, I think it will be a matter of time b4 they release it to the lesser models, I hope....;)

It's juz some marketing thingy... who knows that Digic4 is juz an overclocked Digic3. ;)
What makes Digic4 so special over Digic3 other then the numerical numbering?

Why not? Why would I buy a 1 year old product if in a few months I could get something better, for the same price? Overclocked or not, why not, but I doubt it.

Who cares what Digic it is? Its still a tiny plastic cam with terrible ergonomics and a tiny dark viewfinder. It'll be 15mp and have miserable noise. Just buy a $600 40D and be happy.

I bet it'll. Choice of 10D and rebel XSi, I bet most ppl would choose the later given the same price.
entry level always beat the xxD series over the time. What's left for the xxD is the build and egonomic

dslclub, dont get me wrong. In other word, the digic IV processor in 50D would eventually goes into the xxxD line, and IMHO it'd be in the next cycle of xxxD.

i wouldnt see why they wouldnt start using digic4 in all cameras. I was looking at canons p&s and they have digic3. So I wouldnt be surprised to see digic4 in new p&s cameras
