My latest attempt at getting a good shot of my son. He's not a big fan of my DSLR- he smiled a lot more for my P&S. Most of my shots still come out awful.

My set up is a sliding glass door for natural light from the left, a flourescent overhead light and a table lamp with incandescent light to reduce the shadows to his face. I shot using my Canon XS and the nifty fifty. Any suggestions to improve my photos are appreciated.

(a) Mixing light sources results in uneven results -- you have the natural light, fluorescent light and incandescent lights all going in different directions. Choose ONE type of light and expose for that.

(b) Focus on his eyes -- if they're crisp and clear, the whole shot is made. Here the focus is on his sweater.

Nex time, turn off the artifical lights, just use natural light. If you need to fill shadows use simple foamcore. Mixing natural light with incadescent and flourescent is going to give you weired results.

Also since you have white bg, get some matching cloting, lighter solid colors will be better.

hes so adorable ang! My biggest comment is that the bottom of his shirt is more in focus than his face. and theres a yellow cast to his skin. , but other than that, Super cute!

If you haven't done it already, manually select your focus point so that it will be the eyes. You can try and position him so the door where the light is coming in is behind you. Foamcore is basically two sheets of poster board with foam sandwiched between them, gives stability. And yes, turn off the lights and just go natural.
