I just placed order for DMC-LX3K.
My F30, G10, LX2, G6 and S6000fd are anxiously awaiting it's arrival. :)
All pictures taken during shootout will be available for download without being pp-ed, including RAW where applicable.

Actually, I found this really good review with some great comparison pics between the two cameras.

I look forward to seeing yours as well. I am seriously leaning toward the LX3 from all that I have been reading and seeing in reviews so far. The f/2.0 capability of the LX3 really gives it an advantage in low light.

Good luck! Can't wait to see your review. I had the G10 and ended up returning it. I wasn't happy with the results. I picked up an LX3 and love it!

What the biggest difference you found between the two?

What the biggest difference you found between the two?
Low light conditions. I shoot a lot in low light and the LX3 performed much better than the G10, in my opinion.

Before you start to make comparison on these camera, you might want to take a look at this article.

Yeah....I was waiting for this to come to the surface.
It's not like it'll burst any bubbles but it is true that the G10 is about 1/2 - 1 stop faster.
That means that in any given situation if the G10 is set at say, ISO 400, the LX3 to get the same reading will be around 200 or there abouts.
Setting both cameras to the same ISO is a more accurate way to test, because then the f stops change to a given shutter speed and you can see the difference in terms of 1/2 stops etc.
Facts are that the LX3 has the faster lens regardless and more elegant feel to it.
The G10 is made by a professional Camera company and the attention to details for accuracy and stability are more apparent. The G10 reads light as all my light meters read...almost exactly....The LX3 is always somewhat different.....
Anyway...enough anal crapola.....both cameras are wonderful and it's always a battle for me to decide which one to carry out on a walk a bout....I'll keep both because they are both great image making cameras.....
Remember, exposure is relative to the cameras....as long as it renders a proper exposure to what you want...it works....
The actual ISO is irrelevant .....ISO, what the heck is that anyway....
I want a camera that records in ASA.....geeze......

I am a little confused. I am assuming when dxo measures true iso sensitivity, the measure exposure, bringing in to account the fstop, and shutter speed. Does this mean, to get the correct exposure, at same fstop, and selected ISO, lx-3 needs to double exposure time?

Not exactly double but almost....it varies with different iso speeds...
The G10 is almost dead on with all my meters...the LX3 is not.... I don't use the meters anyway....
it's ok but deceiving with the panny...
ya think ya are getting great low noise exposures at say 800...
it's really close to 400...the G10 gives 400 at 400.....
still, the noise is better with the Lx3 at any rate....just make images and don't sweat the iso.....

Streetshooter, first off, I enjoyed looking at your website and images. some great captures.
well, the ISO does make a difference, in that with a desired f stop and shutter speed, I have to increase my iso to get the same exposure. If one is looking at noise at various iso levels as a reason to decide between the two, this I think should be considered.

im a bit confused here...
how can you say the ISO noise is better with the Lx3, when even set to
its highest ISO speed it is really taking pictures at only around half that
number in comparison to the G10?
furthermore, if at ISO 80 the Lx3 is really taking pictures at ISO 64 and
the G10 is producing higher IQ pictures at a true ISO 80 speed (from what
iv read and experienced), where is the advantage of the Lx3 aside from
the faster lens and wider angle?
(i got to play with an Lx3 the other day, and the pictures once on the
computer looked a bit flatter and less appealing. at ISO 80 i thought
the G10 was producing better pictures hands down...imo)

NJdez,
I'm not going to get in a debate, I'm just speaking from my own experience...
True, the G10 is much better at low iso in all respects...I've stated that on other threads....
The LX3 has better IQ at higher iso....and I've tested like so...
G10...iso 800, LX3 iso 1600.....so on and so on...
got it.....the LX3 has better IQ maybe due to less pixels.....
they both have their advantages and both make great images....
it ain't ever a shoot out...it's about images....

fair enough, im not looking to debate. and i got that...youv said it numerous times.
i now just dont understand how one can claim less noise with the LX3 with inaccurate ISO readings.
either way im still impressed with both camera's performance.

Here are some quick shots I took of my friend. This was very on-the-fly utilizing a single strobe for fill. The images are unretouched (besides the fact that they are reduced for posting).

those are nice pictures...
but the majority of people on here arent using their G10 or Lx3
with professional lighting equipment and mounts. any point and
shoot with a hot shoe and this set up will produce professional
quality pics.
imo its about how these cameras perform during regular use.
and by that i mean ambient or hot shoe mounted flash lit subjects,
handheld shots or with a basic tri pod.

True, but I'm just posting samples of what I've done with a light set up. I'm not saying people should shoot this way nor was I comparing cameras. There are hundreds of threads about how LX3's and G10s or other point and shoots perform in "regular" usage. My post is a non-typical contribution if you know what I mean.

I have my G10 for 3 weeks and love it ! I have been reading the multiple reviews and forum topics about the performance of these high end P&S cameras and still prefer the G10. I think everyone would like to see these P&S's perform like a 1D-Mark III but they are not. What they do is give you that much more flexibility in your pocket for under $500.00 without lugging around a boatload of gear. Your not going to get the low light performance or ultra zoom and speed of a DSLR, but if you get to know the G10 and shoot smart you can come pretty close.
I'm interested in seeing your LX3 shots. Most of the photos I have seen have a very soft yellow look ? Also what is your opinion on the size ? I know smaller is better for some but the LX3 seems a little fragile ???
Thanks for the reviews.

Learn how to balance ambient and strobe, and you're on your way. Its a very easy technique to learn. Here are a couple links to my blog discussing the technique, and a couple images from students at my workshop where I taught them. And it doesn't take a lot of fancy equipment either. Ie, the G10 with a cheap $50 strobe, and a way to fire it off camera is all thats really needed. Having a stand and a small softbox or umbrella also helps. Maybe $100-$150 total.

Here is a site that is dedicated to using small strobes, and balancing ambient and flash.

Well, people plan and God decides what happens. I had my car broken into over Xmas and dealing with that delayed me severely. This will teach me not to announce anything until it is ready.

Zoran, are you saying god broke in to your car, or arranged your car to be broken in to? you must have been very naughty last year.

Kevin, you are mixing up God with Santa.
In either case your comment is very rude.

Zoran, I disagree. My comment is not rude, it is made in jest, I think is well within standards of tasteful humor.
That much said, I am sorry that you were offended.
