Hi all,
I'm about to take delivery of a G10, and have been trying to decide whether to order the new lensmate filter attachment or buy the one canon has put out for the camera.

Does anyone have either or both of these, and which do you think would be better? I really only want it for filter use (and mostly polarising filters at that), but I can't decide which is going to work better. It looks like I'd have more choices with the lensmate adapter, but then it's not really clear enough to tell from the canon literature (from what I can see from my searches today).

Does anyone have any gripes about either? Does the canon conversion adapter allow full use of the entire lens length range, without vignetting? I'm aware from the lensmate site of the potential for vignetting with theirs.

Can anyone tell me what size filter the canon adapter takes?

cheers!

Canon lens adapter is only made for the teleconverter. and even with that the lens will
smack the converter at its longest focal length. with filters the same thing happens, and
you get a good amount of vignetting as well.

the Lensmate has 2 different front sections. one made for 72mm filters with no
vignetting and the other for the teleconverter. both solve the problem of the lens
hitting the filter or converter. the lensmate's rear section also has a 58 mm thread,
while the Canon uses a 57 mm thread. this means that with the lensmate you can
mount a wideangle, fisheye, or macro lens directly in front of the lens without
having to zoom and placing the lens closer to the sensor.

also the lensmate adapter is aluminum, while the canon is plastic. id suggest not
wasting your time on the canon adapter and going straight for the lensmate. theres
really no advantage to owning the canon over the lensmate imo

NJDez - I have the Canon LA-DC58K tube adapter and Canon's teleconverter lens. The G10's zoom lens DOES NOT hit the telconverter at full zoom. It may hit a 58mm filter if you did attach that to the tube adapter, but not the teleconverter. Just wanted to make sure the correct information got out there.

I only purchased the Canon tube adapter since Lensmate's wasn't available yet and I had a trip to China at the end of November. Given the two choices, I'd pick Lensmate's for their quality and flexibility.

i just went back through the Lensmate info on their site, and they do say
there is no difference between the Canon adapter and theirs when using
the teleconverter...so your right.

i own the Canon adapter right now but dont have the teleconverter yet.
iv been using it for macro lenses and my fish eye set up. my Lensmate
adapter should be here by the end of the week...cant wait!
