I have been away for a long time... working hard on two projects, that one day I hope will help me... and all of you... change the world for the better.
We all see the world different ways, and we - the photographers - are the lucky one to be able to capture our own unique views of it.
We all come from around the world, different societies, different rules, different ways of seeing things...
We all need to become more tolerant of how others see the world
Let me know what you THINK...

Make it smaller, I get scrollbars both up-down and sidewards, it's just so big I get scrollbars. Viewed in fullscreen with 1024*768

Very nice, except the scrolling gets a little jittery and frustrating at times.
I don't like music on websites, but that's just my personal opinion.

I like the map idea, that works nice, but I just don't like the amount of waiting for things to happen, such as the text at the very beginning and the transitions.

The text at the beginning is a little much, but other than that it looks good.

Jo,
I have admired your work from the first time I saw it. This is no exception. I think it is excellent.
The ONLY thing I would consider adding if you can is the ability to look at the photos as a slideshow, or to allow the user to go from one large photo to the next using the arrows to navigate rather than the mouse.
Some mentioned that it was large. I have a Large monitor, so I appreciate that it is large. I didn't have big black blocks around a window in the middle. I imagine if I had looked with my laptop, I'd probably have the same thoughts.

Thanks every one for your comments. When I open it on my laptop - it resizes to the size of the window I have open. I don't get scroll bars at all.

SoccerRef,
I had actaully suggested that to the webprogrammer and designer - but they liked it better this way... it is definitely something I can add.
We are working on the jitterty parts :)

We are working on the jitters :) and the music is easy to turn off at the top of the screen.
I will be doing a bit more to it over the next few months...

One more question... Is that you, your husband, and your son narrating the "video" chapters?
OK, Two more questions... Why do you not have this book for sale? It seems that you did this more as a personal project. All of the material has a very personal feel to it, and if that is the case, I completely understand you not selling, but I would be the first in line to buy it should you decide to start selling it.

just a quick note, but you might want to rethink the "view" category on your site. i was thumbing through the pictures and while they are stunning images, i think there's something to be said about the overgeneralized one-word sections that they're filed under. the one that stuck out the most for me was "greed". most of the pictures depict resources, luxuries, or development. although some show pictures of excess, i don't think any really deserve the title of "greed". the world economy relies on the acquisition of oil and lumber, many people work hard to earn money to embark on cruises, and the golden ornate fixtures on some buildings i think are very telling of the cultures that erected them. i think the diversity of appearance, customs, and community that you portray in the rest of your site works in concert with much of what is listed as greed. people need to earn money, people need to feed their families and pursue their own happiness as they see fit. maybe consider retooling the sections to fit the beautiful images rather than a word that our society has branded with such disdain and negativity.
just my two cents. :D

Narrating is myself, my son and a friend of mine... my husband doesn't have the voice :) - or so he thinks.
The book is not yet for sale - I made 500 copies of it, and have been very nervous about sending them out. I am very critical of my own work.
If you would really like one, email me from the site and we can get in touch.
Thanks for the interest

I am so pleased to hear your two cents worth. It is exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Not everyone should see the world as I see it. We all see it differently, it doesn't mean we are correct.
The photos in View are not ALL of the photos in the chapter... there are other photos that you may agree go under that heading, and there are many you do not... the important thing is that you are THINKing...
You have made my night!
Thanks

Wow very nice site. Maybe make the text at the start scroll up and stay? So at the end you get a paragraph?

I love the detail of your site. I think what I'd recommend for some of the complaints is a button to bypass the things that make you wait so much.. Or maybe an option for people with slower internet to click on. VERY NICE!

Very neat site, and the video is neat from what I watched. my only critique would be that the marquee effect is a bit old-fashioned, but the page transitions and everything else is great!
