I cant believe the results i got from 1600 iso on the 20D. I have been shooting regulary at 400 for outdoor sports and they seem to be noiser than these i shot at 1600.

I was very impressed by the low noise in these though. Both shot with the nifty fifty @1600:

Did you use any noise reduction software or is this right out of the camera?

No, it has been run through noise ninja but the image straight from the camera was very impressive.

I'd concur - I have shot indoors at 1600 ISO with my 10D and was also impressed with the results (versus a grainy 400ISO with my S1 !)

I'm into my second week of 20D ownership and every day I'm blown away by something new that this camera is capable of doing. I used to shoot hockey pix with a Drebel at 800 ISO in a poorly lit arena (the one the follwing photo was taken in). 1600 ISO was not an option because of too much noise. Afterwards I have to work like a son of a gun with Photoshop to make the photo look good and most times I gave up.

Last night I shot this one at 1600 ISO on the 20D and you have to look deep to find any noise. The first is as I took it other that cropping. The second is after some changes to levels, contrast and sharpening the edges, no change to noise. I'm totally impressed by the 20D.

I get a LOT of banding with my 20d + 550EX @ 1600, usually when I am underexposing and letting the flash provide subject i.s.1/90th f2.8 in a dim lit room. I seem to get WAAY more banding than noise
