I like to ask if anyone owns the Quantum FreeXwire FW8R and FW9T. :)

To set it up on a

1. 1D3 + EX 580 II (do I need to purchase any additional item like a cord?
2. 5D2 + EX 580 II (as above)

If so will greatly appreciate if you could share the type of cord.

Many Thanks

I don't have the FreeXwire units but I can answer your question. The FW9T comes with a miniphone-to-PC cable which can be used to connect the FW9T to the camera PC port. The FW8R does not come with a cable but any short PC-to-PC or miniphone-to-PC cable can be used to connect the receiver to the 580EX (the receiver has both a PC port and a miniphone jack for its sync-out terminal).

Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but the FreeXwire does not have a foot for mounting directly on the camera hotshoe so you'll need to get the Quantum hotshoe adapter to mount the transmitter directly onto the camera or some sort of bracket to attach the transmitter indirectly to the camera.

Understand ... I suppose its similar to the elinchrom skyport where the receiver, too does not come with a hotshoe mount but a little strap attached to it so that it can hang it over somewhere!

Edited: sorry I misread .. you meant the transmitter ... hmmm ... ok so I will need to include that item .. do you happen to know the part number!

just wonder if you only have 580EX, why not using ST-E2 instead?

Can't speak for the OP but generally, RF works much, much better outdoors than IR does and provides a much longer working distance without requiring line-of-sight between the Tx and the Rx units. :)
