Hi Folks

As you know, I have just begun to learn photography and am getting to know my S30. I took the following three shots at night. I would appreciate your comments on each of the photos.

The very first shot IMO is best. Correct me if I'm wrong but you didn't use a tripod did you? I also noticed in the exif data the iso was missing. Not that it matters much as the photo isn't grainy but more so a touch, and I do mean a "touch" blurry.
Good job!:)

Hi Colin

You are right I did not use a tripod. I don't own one yet. As i am still a beginner, I did not set any ISO setting. All I did was to Apeture and Shutter speed. I am still trying to understand different settings and the result each produce. This is the reason why I value your comments and opions. Thanks.

You mentioned that the first one was better. Why first and not the second. Just would like hear your views.

Grisly,

#1 is the 'best'. #2 is blurred, I have seen to many like #3 from relatives, all taken by accident.

About #1: ALWAYS use a tripod, otherwise you might as well not take the shot, try to remove the 2 poles on the left and right.
Did you play around with various croppings?

Keep shootin'

Well Gris, I'm just a beginner too. Beleive me!
About the missing iso in the exif data, I'm not even sure why it isn't there as I've noticed it is missing in my photo's also. Hmmm.
Henk is right too. The third photo is a common mistake photo but always kinda cool to look at. Number two is most blurry and has less of the building and lights showing as compared to number one.
Number one is very nice however slightly blurred.
A cheap tripod is all you need. $35.00 CDN. It will make a world of difference.
What camera are you using?

Thank you Henk & Colin.

Henk, I have not played with cropping. Am not sure what and how. Would you share some pointers please?

Colin, I use Powershot S30.

#3 photo was taken deliberately. I opened the shutter for 15 secs. Just wanted to see how those screaching lights are produced.

Thanks folks for your view. I value your comments.

Don't get me started here. Take a few days off, install the software that you got with the camera (Photoshop Limited Edition?) and start working. You might buy a few books about PS. There are also lot of websites about PS and working with PS.
You need to do this soon. All pictures need to be processed digitally. The days that you could drop off your film and let an idiot ruin your pitures are over, but you have to work for it.
If you want to have some general knowledge about photography start with the Kodak website, but there is also lot of other great stuff out there.
