Here's a couple of dark shots I took whilst in Brisbane at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.
We were under a dark bush environment, so as I would expect, the shots came out not so great. Can't lighten them up further, without blowing out the highlights.

I have some better angle shots, but I was on ISO 800 at the time, stopped down to the lowest on my Sigma 70-300 lens, at 5.6, and still shutter speed was 1/60th or less. So clearly, it's blurred. I guess partial due to clearly I can't handhold at that speed at 300mm, and also the excitement of seeing a bird like this, probably made me shake even more. :p

Thanks for the comments. :)
I have no idea on what exact type of bird it is. :p It was pretty big, and a juvenile. Was told it's about 3/4 or 4/5th full size. Amazing how fast they grow.

With that coloring? I'd think Harris Hawk or Golden Eagle,.
But now you say Juvenile,. and your in NZ which means what the heck do I know about your local raptors.. Juvenile bald eagles look like Goldens though...

Looks like a comon australian Falcon, lots in Ausie, and over here.

Some very nice photos, but what happend to ISO 3200? :D
You will have to get down to WingSpan in Rotorua if you reall enjoyed seeing the birds in Ausie, you will be blown away by Wingspan.

Aww, it was shot in Brisbane, Australia, on my recent holiday. :D
The bird possibly wasn't even a local, as it was at an animal park. Although all the animals there were Australian. I like the sound of Golden Eagle. It can't be fully bald, as others have said, it has a hairy nose. :p

Umm, I was using ISO800 at the time, shooting something else, and I saw the keeper walk past with it. Camera settings wasn't really running through my mind, except "shoot, shoot shoot!". HEHE.
