I am getting ready to pull the trigger & buy my first dslr.

I have a 4mp point & shoot (Leica Digilux I) and a Canon 1vHS.

I plan on buying the following:

1dMKII $3,600.
Fast 2 gig CF card $200.
Fast 1 gig SD card $200.
E-1 hand strap $50.
Epson P 2000 $500.
PSCS $300.
other software $150.
Total $5,100.

2nd battery will have to wait.
More memory will have to wait, however it probably will be cheaper later.
17-40L will have to wait.

I have Canon's 20-35mm f3.5-4.5, 28-70mmL 2.8, 70-200mmL 2.8 (non-IS), 50mm compact macro & lifesize converter, 1.4X TC MKII, 2.TC MKII, 2 EX550 Flashes, Gitzo tripod, and a ton of accessories that will work seamlessly with the 1D MKII

How aould you adjust this equipment list? Spending more money is not an option.
I doubt that I will be able spend any more money for 6 months. (I'll be eating a lot of Kraft Macoroni & Cheese, a staple of readers of this forum.

Where did you find the 1D MKII for $3600? Make sure the dealer has a good reputation. You would hate to go burned on a big purchase like that :-(

Tapeman,

sounds like a good setup to me.

You should maybe add the POTN neck strap to your list.

Best regards,
Andy

I have been quoted by a reputable mail order house for $3,749. I don't think I'll have to wait long to get one for $3.600. I forget if it was Focus or 17th St.

The upgrade from "Elements" was $300.00,.. from PS7 it's more like $189.00

Shop around for memory cards.. I got good 1GB SD cards for under $100.00,.. and 2GB Sandisk Ultra2 for around $150.00

New Egg has increased the price to $166 now, but that's still about the least expensive I have seen.

I was originally planning on buying two of these, but I'm afraid that even 4 gigs won't be enough on a week's vacation. So, I thought that a portable stand-alone storage device would work, but I'm still having a hard time making up my mind on which one would be the most reliable/useful.

Please, no offense intended, but please, someone translate this into English?

Aside from spending too much money on the memory, i'd be suprised if it even came with a charger.

B&H and Dell even sell them for $3999 or less, and the lowest price I've seen that I would have no hesistation buying from are buydig.com and pcrush.com. Buydig is currently selling the 1D Mk II for $3695 + $25 shipping.

So instead of paying $600 for Photoshop CS you can spend just over one hundred for Elements 3.0 (which I've had for some time) and another $300 for the upgrade? Is that how I understand it?

Is there ANY advantage of purchasing the full version of PS-CS over an upgrade from Elements?
