What does the S3 stand for in the S3IS point and shoot?I'm kinda thinking its just the model or vintage #.

It is the Model between the S2 and the S5.

a better question(not that that is a bad question, forgive me) but where the hell is the S4is, did canon just not like the number 4? did they make one, and it just wasn't right, so they skipped it? Were there just too many other manufacturers with an S4?

I think they skipped the S4 IS because it used "B"-cell batteries...:-)

4 is thought to be an unlucky number in Japan. At least that's a commonly-cited reason for its absence in camera lineups.
