View Full Version : Wait was killing me, Stepped up to 20D!

I have been planning to buy the Rebel XT since it was announced. Last week, Best Buy told me that they would have 4 Rebel XT's coming in on Thursday am. I patiently waited until Thursday, and even cancelled my pre-order with Amazon.com. Thursday comes, and the photo staff at Besy Buy have "never heard of it", it's "not in the computer", and "we probably won't get it for several weeks"! What?! :( So, I did what and other super-impatient person would do: Ordered a EOS 20D overnighted for Friday AM :lol:. Now I'm sitting here with my whole new getup dying to get some free time to go take some photos! The "Beginner lens selection" thread was great for me, thanks! Anyone have any tips on the 20D for dummies? I'm coming from a G6, but I have an old film rebel and Holga around here somewhere...

Play on Av mode, see what happens when you adjust the aperture. Don't worry about the other settings until you need them, read the manual so you know what it can do. Just learn the thing slowly, it's a bit harder to drive than your average point and shoot camera :)

90% of my shots have been on AV mode, flash shots have been on P or Auto mode, and for panoramics, I've used Manual mode. :)

I hope you didn't use BestBuy after they stuffed you around.
I hate it when we're mis-informed.

Congratulations on your 20D. I have read everything I could about it before I purchased one for my wife about a month ago. I have since read everything I could since my wife introduced me to this forum. I amd trying to learn as much as I can as my 20D should arrive by next Wednesday.
Big step up from my Canon A70 & wifes Pro1.
All you guys keep giving advice 'cause I'm reading & learning.

I'll be in AV mode if anyone needs me... Nope, I didn't buy from Best Buy, I went with Amazon.com, since I'm so impatient and they offered next day air until like 6pm the day before :). Thanks for the replies, I can't wait to see some results! We've had beautiful weather lately (80+/sun), but I've been at work and in school (pharmacy) 7days/week.
