Wasn't sure what category this fell under, so I figured I'd try it here. Was watching tv and saw there was a rocket launch, grabbed the cam and walked out into the front yard just in time to catch it.

What part of florida you in?

One time I was eating breakfast and watching the news when they showed live footage of it taking off. Then a glimmer of light caught my eye through the window beside me and there was the space shuttle taking off....

It's a good 3-4 hour drive to get to cape canaveral from where I am but it seems so close...

What kind of rocket was it? Any guess? Are they launching humans again?

Cool shots. Watching a shuttle launch is way cool. I experienced a night laucch in 1998, what an experience. Here is a series of 9 photos from that night. (http://photo.klein-jensen.dk/ee/photo.php?photo=773)

In rocket lanuches I believe no. But in shuttle launches yes. The next shuttle launch is in june or july I think. Checked it because I am going to Florida in April ;)

Hi Tommy. How close were you for that launch.

I was inside the space center on a special viewing location, I think it is about 6-7 miles from the launch pad. Very good spot.

I'm in Melbourne, a bit north of you. Pretty close to the cape. I'm looking forward to the shuttle launch this summer, I'm going to go up and watch it there if I can get off work. I didn't get out of surgery until like 45 minutes before this launch so I had to hightail it back home from Orlando to catch it!

From NASA...."The world's heaviest commercial communications satellite successfully launched from Cape Canaveral atop a tailor-built Lockheed Martin Atlas 5 rocket at 4:42 p.m. EST Friday."

Heh something tells me that wouldn't go over so well.

"I'm sorry Mrs. Jones, we can't take your gall bladder out today because the doctor is home sick" haha....yeah, definitely wouldn't work!

Ahhh, hmm, then say You got a emergency call from NASA to check out the health of the astronauts. ;)

I guess as a Florida resident You have seen many launches?

Tremendous. Unlike most of the rocket photos seen to date - and there have been many!
B&W version does nothing for me though.

WOW .... you must live pretty close to it ... or you have a 1200 lens.

Somehow, this reminds me more of a space museum, than a rocket launch where the spectators are normally several kilometers away...

Best regards,
Andy

Is that a Gemini capsule on the nose of that thing?

Earlier still. It is a Mercury capsule on an old Redstone rocket. Alan Shephard must be riding again!
