If you are using the Sigma 500 DG super with your 10D and also pocket wizard or other remote, are you able to get the 500 to test fire? I can't make mine fire with my L358, corded or uncorded or with my pocket wizard. Works ok when I push the shutter button. Am I missing something easy, or am I sending it back?

There have been lots of people recommending this flash unit. . . where are you?

Can you give us a little more detail as to how you have the flash, the 10D and everything else hooked up so that we can see if maybe there's something wrong with your set up or if it really is the flash itself.

Flash on camera, set to ettl or anything else for that matter. Camera settings P, manual or anything else. PW receiver plugged into pc connection, plugged into flash. PW transmitter set. Push button on transmitter, receiver light comes on. . . no flash activation.
Also use L358, activates receiver. . . no flash. Hook up direct cord. . . no flash.
Put 420EX on camera and all the above activates the flash.
My question would be: Am I supposed to be setting the 500 to some different setting that I'm not finding? Do I have a bad 500? Maybe the 500 won't fire with a remote to camera pc connection?

Is this the BRAND NEW version of the DG super - the "EO" version (it only says this on the back)... I'm having some problems with my new 500 DG supers - I will be posting a new topic about this.

Yes it says EO on the back. What sort of problems are you having?

I'm still having a hard time understanding what you're trying to do.
You say the flash is attached to the camera. I'm assuming it's on the hot shoe so that when you release the shutter button, the flash will fire, as is normal.
Then you say that you attach a PW Receiver to the PC connector. Are you talking about the PC connector of the camera? If so, why would you do that? You should be plugging the Transmiter to the PC connector so that when you release the shutter, the transmitter can activate a remote devide such as another flash.
The way you have yours set up, you're trying to fire the flash that is on the camera using a remote PW transmitter or the L358 via a PW receiver attached to the PC connector of the camera. I don't think you are suppose to work them that way.

In order to take meter readings with a light meter, you can hook up directly, meter to camera pc via cable, or go wireless with a pocket wizard. Push the button on the meter, or a transmitter, and it should fire the flash on the hotshoe of the camera. It works fine with my 420, but not with the 500.
This, coupled with the problems you are having, makes me wonder what else isn't working. I think I'm going to send mine back.

If you are going to meter with a light meter, then you should have your flash set on Manual, not ETTL. And it should be connected to the PW receiver via a PC cord, not to the camera hot shoe. The PW transmitter should then be connected to the camera via the PC connector (or the hot shoe) on the camera so that the camera can trigger the flash to take a picture or the L358 can trigger the flash to take a meter reading.
The fact that the 420EX fires in your setup is a just fluke.

According to my L358 instructions, my 10D and the 420 are set up properly and working like they are supposed to.

Are you sure about that? I'm looking at the L358 manual and I can't find anywhere where it says to set it up the way you described. Maybe my reading glasses need cleaning. :) What page did you see it at?

Gotta tell you Ace, I am confused. I've been triggering the on camera flash, for light readings, through the pc connection on the 10D for quite a while. Never ocurred to me that it was wrong.
If this is correct, however, how else do you trigger the flash to take a light reading, other than uncorded mode and manually triggering the camera? More adapters? Sounds like a case for "Another" thread.
