Shallo Depth of Field

I wasn't sure where to post this but thought this was the best place. I have an assignment to demonstrate shallow depth of field in a photo. I have taken two totally different pictures. Can I get some feedback on them and if I'm on the right track with something good to show...thanks :)

A more obvious example would probably be something with a repetitive pattern, such as a fence - I wouldn't say that either of these were a clear demonstration to me. Something uncluttered where you could see the plane of focus fall away.

Try a ruler or yardstick with a macro lens, or perhaps a train track. These work, though. --Rick
