I was testing out my new camera and did some shots of my daughter Olive. It's a Canon Rebel XS. My first DSLR so it's a bit foreign for me. Let me know how I'm doing.

No 4 and 5 are good as you dont have flash shadow as you have on the others. To avoid shadow its best to use an external flash rather than the onboard flash and diffuse/bounce the flash on somewhere like the ceiling.(Im assuming you used the pop up flash on the camera for these pics)). Pop up flash's are really only good for fill in flash when there is a lot of back light. Because you havnt got a wall behind pics 4 and 5 your flash is not as noticable and you can get away with the flash configured to shoot straight at the subject. If finances are a bit short and you have to stay with the pop up flash there are a couple of old tricks you can do like get tissue opaper and drape it over the flash or maybe get a plastic milk container and cut a bit off to place over the front of the flash. Alternatively you can buy flash diffusers that fit in front of the pop up flash which will help to minimise shadows
