so, i just baught my STE2, and i took it to a night club and i noticed that A, it miss fires alot. and B, it doesnt put out as much power as it would on camera or with a ttl cord. has this happened to anyone? i shot at between 1000-1600 iso at 5.6 and 1/8th.

Please clarify since an ST-E2 is not a flash unit.

sorry, its the canon wireless transmitter. its firing 1-2 580exII flashes

My understanding is that the ST-E2 needs line-of-sight to the flash units that it is fireing and also uses infrared. I can imagine that some of the nightclub lighting would interfere with that. Have you tried your setup at home or in a studio?

Also I'm gonna guess that you were using eTTL. What if you used manual flash? Since you had high ISO and long SS, why wouldn't the camera's eTTL get fooled into thinking you had enough ambient light and thus not make the flash duration longer?

I think this is a case where a little experimentation will do wonders for you.
