I just picked up a 20D and would like to find a pc cord to run to one of my vivitar flash guns. Ive looked on ebay but all Im finding are 11 inch cords. I would like to have something longer so I can move around freely and am not sure exactly what to search for.
Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks,

Adrian

Here are lots of PC Cords (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=pagination&A=nextPage&Q=&catId=1&compareCatId=1&shs=PC+cord&ci=1&ac=&al=&bl=&sb=ps&sq=desc&fi=all&com_116632_REG=&com_116633_REG=&com_288301_REG=&com_288302_REG=&com_82692_REG=&com_78146_REG=&com_78147_REG=&com_82554_REG=&com_82556_REG=&com_91966_REG=&pn=6) to have a look at. The shipping is high thought. If there is a camera store close to you, have them order one for you and save the cost of shipping.

Be a bit cautious connecting your 283 to the 20D. The 20D can presumably handle 250vdc at it's PC terminal according to the manual. I have some older 283's that the trigger voltage is in a range of 255-260 vdc measured. Whether this 5-10 volts over would be enough to possibly cause any damage to the camera, I didn't want to risk it. I have seen reports that some of the more recent production model 283's may have trigger voltages around 12 volts which would be safe.

Just found this on vivitars web site.

"We do not recommend the use of older flash units with digital cameras due to voltage considerations. Vivitar's flash designed for digital cameras, the DF-200 assists a camera's internal flash and has a learning mode to sync with it, all without a direct electrical interface.

The early 283 units made in Japan and Korea, have voltages which could be damaging to the camera's circuitry. The current models of the 283 made in China have a trigger voltage of approximately 6V."

I have one made in japan and One made in china. Im gonna put velcro tape over the jap modles PC terminal. This would prevent me from hooking it up to the camera by accident.
So I'll sync to the made in china 283 and slave the jap model. I shouldnt have any problems.

I use china made 285 HV directly on the rebel. So far so good... about 2000 exposures. Shutter shuts. *knock on wood*

I extended the sync cable on my 283 with speaker wire. Works fine.

Heres the deal, the 283s made in china wont hurt your camera 20D, the vivitars made in japan will fry your camera eventually if not instantly.
