Love this lens - took a few of some of my employees today - shot at av mode, f.8, ISO 200 with the 10D - No flash required!

Two more, last really shows the depth of field of this lens - each container is only 4"wide - Kidney beans in focus - far edge of chic peas 4"away fading...

Good work. Particularly the 3 and 4. I love the bright colors of the food. I'd be interested in a similar shot with more DOF though. Not sure if it would be better though, I like it as it is.

Thanks - I had the camera set at F1.8 as I was primarily taking portraits of people - I passed the salad ingredients and took a quick shot - when I reviewed them tonight - I thought the same thing - should have upped the aperture to keep all the items in focus! It really does exhibit the depth of field of this lens though!

Hmmm . . . I have a question: Do you work for Canon?
Heh heh.
I think you've pretty well reinforced my decision to go with the 1.8. I was concerned with it's build quality, but what the heck for the price? Optics certainly appear to be high quality. I like what you've caught with these photos as well.
Of course, that means I won't be buying the 1.4, so maybe you don't work for Canon!!

Thanks - you really can't beat this lens for the price. I paid just under $80 new. The low F stop really enables some great indoor shots without any flash. The bokeh is nice too...

I came home with the same lens about an hour ago. I'm real happy with it...

Geeeyejo, Congrats on the new lens. Just got a new one myself and waiting to get it thru the mail.
Are you a restaurant owner? Looks like food service to me. I am a restauranteur! Find the thing I hate most about my profession is getting time to get out and shoot!
Nice captures! I cant wait to try out my new nifty fifty!

Thanks Dante,
No, not owner, but I work for a contract food management company. We operate employee cafeterias for various companies in NY, NJ & Fl. I was an area manager for them - but was just promoted to Director of Purchasing. My last day involved with this location, so I took some pics of the employees.

Very nice shots Gee. I especially like the young lady in #3. You are obviously well liked by your co-workers. They really showed well for you and your camera. These pictures not only show the quality of the 50mm 1.8, but the absolute necessity for the photographer to have a good rapport with his or her subjects. (However, I think the black olives were giving you the evil eye. I don't think they like you).
I got my 'nifty fifty' last week. I haven't taken it off the camera since!

All taken with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 and a Canon 10D

Well mine's on the way. It'll be attached to an Elan though, so anything I post will have to be scanned! Oh well . . . I'll go digital SLR someday. 60D....
