Does anyone know what happened to canon s500 (5mp digital elph)? It was in every store just 5 days ago, and suddenly it just disappeared form every store and website, like, overnight. Is it discontinued?
I wanted to buy this camera as a gift , and I guess I kept waiting for too long until it would go down in price a bit.. Any info will be appreciated.

Hmm.. I am not sure, better be a place that you can go back with the receipt in hand just in case.. Like walmart, or bestbuy..I actually saw a better price at Walmart and then - gone. I am wondering why all the big retailers dropped this item so suddenly literally on the same day? Any ideas? Is it going to resurface?

Well, I know it's nice to be able to walk in,. but I'd trust B&H or Newegg over BestBuy's customer service any day of the week :)

Other than the fact that it is popular,. I don't know of any reason why it would be out of stock though.

Isn't the S500 being replaced by the SD400 which is also a 5 MP camera but has the newer DIGIC II processor, uses the SD card instead of the CF card and is a little more compact? Maybe the S500 is being phased out (I'm just speculating here).

I fear the S500 is the last of the traditional "S" series (CF,Li-ion battery,ALL metal). It's unlikely we will ever see cameras made as well ! It's sad ! I especially love the earlier raw stainless steel models, of which I have.
