I would like to buy the XSI Rebel but understand the new TSI will be announced in February. I do mostly backyard birding, some landscape and occasional macro. Other than movie mode in MF (which i don't need), the added MP, around 3 more, will i lose a lot? Will the 12 MP be enough to do some cropping and still get good resolution? Any thoughts on which lens i should use for wide to medium, decent zoom and a good macro? I'm thinking of Canon 70-300IS, Canon 100mm Macro and maybe the 18-55 IS.

I suggest buying your camera from Sams club, they offer a lifetime return policy and dont ask questions why you are returning it, they will exchange it or give you your money back.

Now the XSi is a great body and is a great birding camera too, infact all DSLR's are great for most shooting types. Getting one, enjoying it and learning from it are whats important.

I would not worry about predictions of when a body might come out, unless canon puts out a notice that it will be released I wouldnt worry about it. A lot of people make up specs to a camera based on what they think it might be.

Just buy from Sams club and you can upgrade when you want :)

Good luck and Happy Holidays.

Thanks for your reply guys. Do you think the lens selections i posted are good ones for what i do. I'm wondering if, instead of the 100mm macro, i could go with the 60mm macro instead and maybe even not get the 18-55 IS. I know i'll sacrifice quite a bit of wide angle, but not so much either. I'm just a little afraid of the IQ on the 18-55 IS. Any thoughts?

Even if the new Rebel replacement is announced on February, you will see it hit the shelves at least 30 to 40 days after, at the premium list price probably around 799$.
I agree, you should get your XSI, look at your return policies, and My guess is that you'll upgrade after a while to a xxD or xD if you enjoy taking Photos etc

Good luck with your new camera

Don't get into the whole waiting game. Just because the 'TSi' might come out, it doesn't mean the XSi won't take good pictures anymore.

This includes cameras? Most stores give you 2 weeks for returns or exchanges.

Yes, I wouldnt think any store will let you return a camera, electronics etc after 5 months of use.

Even if they would, it would be pretty dishonest to do so. If you want to upgrade, sell it on the used market for a 20% loss and put the money toward another camera.

Lens suggestion. My daughter has a Rebel XSi with the Tamron 28-300 mm macro capability stabalized lens and it is a great do it all lens. With the cable release and an extension cord you can get close up photos of birds too. I also have this lens for my Nikon cameras and it is my lens of choice when I want to only take one lens to the field for wildflower, macro and short range telephoto nature photos. Check it out.
