well i am coming up on a year with my g9 and found a small lint thread on the inside and towards the corner of the lens.

is this the dust problem that everyone is talking about with the g7 and g9?

could this end up getting down on the sensor?

does this warrant sending it to canon?

i am covered with a extended service plan till 2010, that is if circuit city doesn't go out of business...

I noticed that the barrel of my lens on the G9 was getting dusty/linty when I first got my camera last year. The lensmate I got soon after seems to have eliminated this issue - or at least very significantly reduced this issue. As a recult it is a permanent fixture on my camera . The G9 with the lensmate is no longer a slip in the pocket camera -probably where a lot of the lint comes from, and a shadow is cast when you use the flash on wider shots.

Now I just wished they made a very low profile lensmate intended to seal out the dust from the lens area.

I have a lensmate, but haven't been using it lately, and now I have a few threads of lint in the lens. I haven't taken ANY pictures where the lint has made a difference though. I tempted to snap the lensmate on, but it makes the camera much larger.

I've kind of relegated the lensmate to my beach use. I also only put it on when using a external flash, as it provides much more balance.
