Here are two unrelated pictures that I have edited with Gimp. I have been trying to learn as much as possible about editing with gimp. Here are two pictures that I have played with recently let me know what you think, and if critical please make it constructive so that I can learn.

My first reaction to this image is that there's way too much space towards the bottom. I would look for a different crop. I don't think there is much impact by leaving the shoreline in the crop. Therefore, I would crop slightly below the people which will further emphasize them looking into the vastness of the ocean.

Is it ok to edit and repost your image?

it looks like the horizon is crooked. and i wouldnt mind seeing what this looks like as a complete b/w

Agree ;) Very nice timing though on the shot.

This crop doesn't exactly work for me either. The couple is now somewhere in the middle with just about as much water in front as behind them. I think that if you want to emphasize the vastness of the ocean, you need more water in front of them. Something like this:

I think the rule of thirds doesnt work here. The idea of looking at the vast ocean could work much better with the couple centered as in the original picture but obviously with a better crop. And the horizon is distorted too.

The picture is crooked and there is too much deadspace all around for my taste (the subjects are too centered in the frame).

Also, there are very few instances where selective coloring works, this is not one of them.

The closer crops and the full B&W conversion look better to me.

I agree about the selective color. It doesn't work. A little muted may work, so I'll throw that out there in the interest of options.

Ps. This is an 8 x10 crop.

I personally like the centering as well as the selective color. I think more of the sky should be included just to add to the vastness aspect. Aside from the crooked skyline, I think this crop looks best:
