I have noticed that everyone has fallen for the 50mm F1.8 lens and I am no exception...so why don't we post our favourites...

Mine is of a young girl at an orphange here in Ulsan, South Korea. She is just a doll and I really like the way this pic came out...she has a stubborn little face that just warms your heart when she smiles...

I like the idea of this topic, but I have a feeling that not all of the subjects will be people, I suggest that we have this topic moved the the EOS Forum since it is about equipment. Meanwhile I will have to go through my shots to pick one out to post.

@ DOrtiz

That's a really amazing battlefield picture. I assume it is from some form of commemoration of the American civil war.

The thing that immediately strikes me is that the group of three musicians are carrying instruments that, even today, are a fairly common sight in my home country of Northern Ireland. The large drum in the background is called a 'Lambeg', and is played with two canes. Often, during a parade, there will be several Lambeg drummers. The side drummer and fife player normally walk in front, to keep everyone else in time.

Lambeg drums are a common sight in Northern Ireland during our so-called 'marching season' each summer when many bands gather for parades.

Looking closer at your picture, I couldn't help but notice that one figure is wearing a blue cap (N America), a grey cap (S America) and one looks like a Scottish soldier. Wonder is there any significance in this?

Hi Wavy ...

This was a enactment of the Civil War (North vs South), held in Manatee Florida during the October Pumpkin Festival. Those folks really play the part well, and actually walk around the entire park dressed up this way. Here are a few more .. it was really interesting and fun to see.

Thanks for the kind words. That event was quite a site and certainly quite entertaining to watch and take photos of. I had a guy next to me which "really" came prepaired, so I took a shot of him taking shots of the event as well.

Some lens he had, huh? :-)

I'm not an expert ... I'm sure we have some members who are Civil War buffs ... but I do know that there were entire units made up of people of similar descent (i.e., immigrants from the same country). These groups often wore hats or entire uniforms that indicated their nation of origin ... Irish, Scottish, et al.

I would have focused on the tip of the barrel. Nice shot though -- hopefully, that's the only thing you "shot" that day. :-)

Ok, so maybe it is because I have yet to see one in real life, is the guy in Oritz's post shooting with the 100-400L?

Kinger .. I never approached him to ask, I was embarrased to walk up with my "little" 50mm lens attached to my camera. ;-)

Regards,
Dave

PS: It's not the *size* of the lens that counts.. lol

I don't own one, but I'm about 95% sure that it is indeed a 100-400mm L. :) I was actually fondling one at the camera store just yesterday. :D

Yes Kinger, it is a 100-400L. Mine is 2 months old, and you quickly forget its size when you see the quality of the shots! Congrats on making the choice. I hope you didnt arrive at your decision like i did... buying cheaper lenses, only to discover there is a reason they are cheaper :)

A few of these are taken with the Canon 100-400 L IS USM... http://www.sizzlesites.com/goose/photo/photo.html

Amazingly it was my 2nd or 3rd attempt, all photo following this shot didn't have the timing. You can actually see the slide of the handgun comeback, one of my better shots.

Thanks again!

I think then I'll get this one instead of a kit lens when I buy my DSLR (only using a P&S DigiCam right now), looks really good and it seems to be highly recommended!
