Hmm both are great. I think the inverted one is my favorite.

Yeah inverted but both are good.

I like both a lot. What technique are you using? They'd make good computer backgrounds!

I just put the flash (wirelessly) behind and under the smoke, had something black covering the background. Stepped back around 6' about 50mm. Took the shot, then in photoshop, duplicated layer added contrast and decreased brightness and tuned up saturation. Any spots that weren't a solid black, I manually colored in myself on photoshop.
