I'm taking my camera to the Canon Repair Station in Irvine, CA on Monday. I'm having some focusing problems with my 20D. Is this normal? The pictures just dont seem to be coming out very sharp or in focus. I was also wondering if you think that they will clean the sensors, mirror, etc. Will that kind of service fall under the 1 year Canon warranty? Thanks.

I took my Canon video camera to the Irvine shop about a year ago. It was under warranty, and did not work at all after about 10 minutes of use! There was no problem with the repair, and they had the camera ready when promised. Considering they had to replace virtually everything inside the machine (according to the service rep), I did wonder why they just didn't replace the camera. But, whatever, it has worked fine since.

I took my cameras to the CRS in New Jersey to have the focusing checked and I also ask them to clean the sensor while they had the camera. They were happy to oblige and they didn't charge for it since the camera was still under warranty. If there's a new firmware out, they'll even load in the new version for you whether you ask for it or not. What was funny with my last camera was the fact that it already had the latest firmware when I boought it and they still loaded it with the same firmware or so they said (in their work order receipt).

I can see them now. Cool, thanks for the replies-I guess that I will just have to chance it. I went on dpreview.com and there is a guy from Texas there and he sent his to the CRS in Irvine. He said to ask for Doug, supposedly he's the best guy there. I'll let you all know when i get it back.

I took my 20 D to the Irvine Center for the firmware update. They did it while I waited. Great service.

Well I took my camera in, and I would have to say that the service was horrible. First the guy told me that dust in the camera was normal and I would never be able to get it out. I told him that it wasnt and the dust was showing up on my pictures with a shutter longer than a 1/8. So we finally came to a conclusion that my focusing screen was dirty/scratched and that he would have them clean it or replace it? Then as he put my camera down on the counter he had the lens fully extended. The weight of the camera pushed the lens back in and my camer fell over on the counter. I was pissed. So we keep talking, he writes me up, but I have the feeling that he hates his job and just wants to go home. That's fine just dont beat up my camera for his problems. He then takes the lens off to wrap up the camera, and as he puts the lens in the plastic baggy thing, he dropped my lens on the counter also. He replies, "Don't worry i'll make sure it gets checked out." That's it. That's all he said. Then he tells me that i'll have it back in 10 business days. I called two days before and they said 7 business days. I dont care about the days but it just sucks because im going back home in Redding, California and I was trying to plan around it so I got it back in time before I left. Anyway, bad expierience. Just though I would let you guys know.

My D60's viewfinder LCD died just out of warranty. I called Canon NJ, gave them the story, sent it in with a cover letter detailing same, and my long history with Canon gear, and they fixed it fine, and free. No complaints here!
