Little guy was in over the weekend. 3 months is a tough age. They can't sit up and they can't sit still. Lots of floor eating.

It also marks my first repeat customer since I started doing this on the side in May!

This was my favorite from the session:

Thanks for looking!

Nicely done, for sure. I have a 3/4 month old and you're right, it is a tough age to photograph.

Do you have a Bumbo for your clients? He can hold himself up pretty well with that.

Question: you lighting looks very natural . . . was that from a window?

Actually, the Bumbo was in full effect for this shot :)

Mark, light is from a large (47") octabox, high and pretty close.

Now why is that with the bumbo? Sure they can fall off of a table, etc, but you're going to be watching them.... the same thing with their DO NOT USE THE BUMBO IN THE BATH warnings... I don't think it is going to explode on contact with water, they just don't want you to leave your kid alone, sitting in the bath. I think you can put it in the bath and I think you can use it on the table as long as someone is right by the kid so they don't tilt over too far (and given that the table is big enough that it won't tip over). Mine sits up on the "bar" and watches me cook from his Bumbo.

anyway, that was off topic... show us some more of the shots?

Nice shot, I like it. I got the Bumbo last night so will see what I can do with it.

I was thinking of times when there is no one else but the photographer, who is behind the camera and not necessarily right next to the child in the bumbo. there was a lot of stuff in the news last year about the bumbo. when it originally came out, i think they said that it safely holds your child and they can't get out. but then there were instances where people left their kids unattended in it and then they got out anyway and fell . . . so yes, if you're going to be right there with them, i guess it's OK to use, but if you're by yourself, use the bumbo on the floor. not a bad safety message :D

Pretty much boils down to parents not paying attention/thinking they can just leave their kid in *something* and they won't fall out/off and harm themselves. It wasn't long before my kid was lunging forward and able to pop right out of the bumbo.

That said, I used to shoot my kid (and some other kids) table top. It was the easiest way to keep them in a small/contained area! I don't have to do that now... I have a little more space to work with, but sometimes, it's tempting :) I prefer to keep the parents at ease though!

Hoff, I'll post some more later. I haven't edited the whole session yet, just a handful (nothin' else online yet though), whilst suffering from insomnia :)

We bought a Bumbo when our baby was about 5 months old. And we loved it. She is turning a year now so kinda out growing it.

Id get one. New like 35-40 bucks
