I just bought a digital rebel but i had a Nikon 5100 before. It was a great camera, but i felt cheated by the lack of manual options. I took it back and ended up buying my Rebel and I've love control.

But i still want the nikon now, something i can keep in my pocket and such. Is that wrong? I love cameras and electronics so its a hard decision for me to make. I'm not sure if i should save up for a lense, or buy a nice little small camera to take around with me.

Is it wrong for me to buy another camera? i feel like i'm cheating my rebel mainly because it'll probably get alot more use being with me all the time.

What do u guys think?
I was thinking of just getting a cheaper one like a 2200, or somthing so i don't end up spending alot of money.

I eventually got a little Canon s400 for just that reason.. it is in my coat pocket now,.. and fits in a little cell phone pouch whe I'm not wearing a coat.

In truth,. I hardly ever use it,. but it's nice to know it's there.

A lot of digital SLR users keep a digital P&S in their bag. I have a digital ELPH in mine. It's kind of like a little Derringer sidearm on your ankle.

If it's any consolation, I came to the 20D from a Coolpix 5700, and it took me about a week to finally realize that I DIDN'T make a mistake by selling it. While your 5100 didn't allow much manual control, your new Digital Rebel will have a bit of a learning curve before you get pictures you will be happy with.

Enjoy....

Well if u have something like a 20D or 10D I would recommend a Rebel or Rebel XT as a backup. IF you have a rebel/Xt then i would recommend a P&S as a backup. The only P&S I would consider carrying around is a Pro1 although its not pocektable. I simply find pocket cams useless these days.

I simply find pocket cams useless these days. But what about when you are going somewhere that you don't feel like lugging around a full size SLR all day. I've had many instances where I got some great shots where I wouldn't have even had a camera with me if not for the Casio Exilim I had stuck in the front pocket of my jeans. Better to have a so-so quality shot than nothing at all in my opinion.

if i do get a little snap and go digi, what would u say be the bare minimum effective megapixel count?

If i print 4x6, would a 2-3mp be ok? (keep in mind its mostly for pics of the guys, or quick little snapshots, no artsy stuff) I don't want to spend too much either.

I think 2-3 MP is plenty for 4x6, yes. That's what my older Digital ELPH S300 is actually, as well as my Casio Exilim S3.

An XT still isn't going to fit in your pocket.

An Ixus/Elph should do the job fine. I don't bother, if I miss a photo, oh well.

I did the same thing, but once I got used to no (significant) shutterlag and the superior photos, my little N***n P&S went to my daughter. I don't miss it at all.

Happy shooting:)
