Ok, so I am a little late to the winter sports. Started with a pair of games. Played it cautious since I am getting back into shooting hockey. Comments welcome.

Nice shots but you need to tell us what camera/lens you used....

Sorry, Canon 1DIII with a 300/2.8. All shot with strobes.

I think they need a little more PP such as:
- level the boards in the BG
- use a standard size crop like 8x10 and display an 800 or 900 pixel image - you're at ISO 500 in shot 1 and ISO 250 in shot 3 - your IQ will not be impacted
- crop tighter - you have a lot of plexi and foreground ice that don't add much
- a bit more contrast and saturation
you used auto WB...have you tried custom in hockey ? off the ice or a gray card?
cheers

mphotos, just curious what were your camera settings with the strobes (how many) and did you shoot from the penalty box or bench, through glass?

The images are all full frame. I could crop, but size is limited to posting limits on the account. The ISOs are different as the two games were in different rinks (although same building). Different rinks require different setups so the ISO compensates for the difference.
Camera settings were manual 250/4.0. 4 strobes spread across my side of the rink. In one rink I can get up high so they were all pointed straight out, in the other I can only clamp to the wall girders so those were pointed up/slightly out. All shot from the penalty box. This is where I will shoot all my games unless there is glass there as well. In those cases I bring a ladder to shoot over the glass, usually next to the team bench.
Have not tried custom balance off the ice. Good idea since the exposure will be constant.
Thanks for the feedback.
