I decided to try to snap some drop pics, just to see what the buzz is all about. Please C&C :)

All were shot with Rebel XS, Sigma 105mm Macro lens, and Canon 430EX II flash, with the following settings:
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/200 sec
Aperture: f/8.0

#1 looks awesome... my favorite of the set
#3 has some potential....what I'd give to have a closeup on the drop and what's going on right there at the point of impact... looks like it would be pretty awesome

High shutter speed, tripod, water, patience, flash

You can work everything else out as you go. Experiment with different coloured liquids, different viscosities and heights from which you drop the water from.
