Hi - love my D60 and added a 540EZ last week but try as I might I cannot make the shutter fire the flash, Ive tried it on all the program settings, the flash works fine on a EOS3 but put it backon my D60 and theres no flashing. Camera talks to the Flash eg the IR LED ont he flash shows and the zoom function moves with the lens changes. Any ideas for a base setting or something> Firmware is 1.0.4 otherwise everything is standard (I think)
:-) thanks for your help - Andrew

I don't think that the 540EZ will work with the D60 as it is not E-TTL, which is the only flash that the D30, D60, 1D and 1Ds will support. This would explain it working on your EOS-3 which does support A-TTL.

Indeed. On page 96 of my (UK) D60 instruction manual, under the heading "TTL and A-TTL Speedlites", it states:

"With an EZ-, E-, EG-, ML- or TL-series Speedlite set in the TTL or A-TTL autoflash mode, the flash will not fire. The manual flash mode must be used (with Speedlites having a manual flash mode)."

If the 540EZ has a manual mode, try that. If not, you could ask to swap it for an EX-series Speedlite. However, the manual mode might be a good idea; there are numerous reports of Canon's ETTL autoflash system not always being too great at obtaining acceptable exposure levels.

I was thinking that the 550EX is the standard choice for your camera, not the 540EZ. Why was it that you chose the 540EZ over the 550EX?
