I think they enjoyed the serenade...specifically Ride the Lightning, but the skies were clear. Perhaps they were celebrating. If it's difficult to tell; if you tilt your head to the left it looks like they're making a "rock on" symbol hand gesture. You can even see a slight tendon ;) on the bottom.

recently found a whole harddrive full of northern lites i did last year on the powershot sx100 (canon). I'm waiting for a new tripod to get here to support the 50D, otherwise it's difficult to catch them this year. So enjoy these from last year
