Whenever I turn it on, I hear this really long beep - it's not tiny little ones, but it's like - "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep" (ok, you get the point. lol) and it doesn't stop 'till I turn it off.
I'm wondering why it's doing this - I've had it for less than 12 hours and it didn't do this when I used it for the first hour or two. I haven't read the manual yet, I'm not sure if it'll answer my question but I just thought I'd ask here first.
Help?!

I don't think thats a beep thats the flash charging. Put fresh batteries in it and it should go away

It's normal for the 430EX. The capacitor of the flash is charging up.

That actually explains a lot! I kinda figured it wasn't technically a intentional beep, but it was the only way I could explain it. But thanks! I'll be lurking the "Batteries" topic and find some BETTER batteries (I put fresh ones in last night and it's taking a LONG time for it to charge up)
Gracias.

Phaser overload!!! Scotty, beam me up!!!
Normal sound for all flash units as the capacitor charges up.

EXACTLY...remember not to wear "the Red Shirt" around your flash...you know what always happens to the person wearing the Red Shirt!!!

Upgrade to a flash that doesn't have the whine: 580EX II.
Or grow old and you won't be able to hear it anymore.

430EX II is also quiet as can be...even when the batteries are empty-ish.

Actually I hear that annoying tone all the time, both ears. Do you suppose it's my brain charging up? Or do I just need new batteries?
Come to think of it, a fresh set of batteries would be great.

Nope, tinnitus is a side affect of too much Viagra.

LOL! It wont bother me too much - considering I take 90% of my shots while listening to my iPod.
I was just wondering whether I should worry about it or not, but I'm glad I wont have to!

Get some good NiMh rechargeables. They last light years longer than alkalines. That and you can use them over and over again. ;)

In my case I think it's from all that shooting without ear protection.
