View Full Version : Sync Problem: Skyports and Nikon SB-24

So I got my skyports in the mail yesterday and when I tried to use the receiver with a Nikon SB-24, the wires that were included did no good. The pc plug fit perfectly, but the other end of the wire with the male plug was too small for the receiver (looks to be smaller than 1/8"). There's another wire with two male 1/8" ends (both of which fit perfectly into the receiver), but that doesn't solve anything. I'm guessing I need to order some adapter or something? I'm confused as to why it ships with a pc plug with a male end that's too small. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

No you're not missing anything. I don't know exactly what is supplied with a Skyport but it sounds like you're either missing a cable or an adapter and that your kit is incomplete. The idea of Elinchrom supplying all the extras is so that right out of the box you can plug it into just about any flash or strobe with one of the supplied doo-dads.

That particular cable is actually so that you can fire the transmitter with the camera's PC port instead of putting the transmitter on the hot shoe. There is a small jack on the side of the transmitter base that it plugs into.

I don't believe my set came with a pc to 1/8" cable. You can get a 3/32" (2.5mm) to 1/8" (3.5mm) mono adapter to make that cord work, or you'll need to get a pc to 1/8" cable.

Wow, that idea didn't even occur to me. I was using an XTi, but I just tried it on my 30D and yeah, it fits perfectly that way. Thanks. So I take it I can pick up one of these 3/32" to 1/8" adapters at some place like Radioshack right?

Thanks so much!

Yep, that's where I bought mine.

That seems a bit odd that you're not supplied with one of the more popular combinations of connectors? I would think that PC to 1/8" mini phone plug would be there. Interesting.

Yeah, that's what I thought when I got mine. I don't have any flashes with PC jacks, so its not a big deal to me, but you sure would think they'd send you one. PC is about as close to a standard as there is for strobes/flashes.

I'd rather call it "silly", but no, it's not included.

Mine did come with a cable with an Elinchrom plug however, which I cut off to convert to something usefull ;)
